September 02 2002 - Philips Electronics has introduced the DIVAR™ family of digital versatile recorders for security applications. Whether for simple stand-alone applications or globally networked systems, DIVAR brings the benefits of digital CCTV and recording within easy reach for a wide group of users. The top of the range model is an integrated 16-channel digital video recorder, multiplexer and switcher.
Nine-channel and six-channel versions are also available. All feature extensive alarm handling, search and playback capabilities, and include telemetry for controlling Philips AutoDomes™ and PTZ cameras. Using the 'Control Center' user interface, DIVAR can also be connected via a network for remote viewing, playback and configuration.
Without compromising on features or functionality, the DIVAR is easy to install as the basis for a self-contained security system for applications such as department stores, jewelers, larger convenience stores, industrial sites and office blocks. It is compatible with wide- and local-area networks, so it can also be used for distributed surveillance systems with multiple sites observed from a central location such as chain stores, fast-food restaurants, banks (ATMs), supermarkets, unmanned petrol stations and logistics/distribution centers. It is also suitable for remote observation in transport applications such as bus terminals, railway stations, harbors and airports.
Versatile recording and alarm functions
DIVAR is a full-color duplex recording system for simultaneous recording and playback. It has three recording modes ('Linear', 'Circular' and 'Conditional') with overwrite protection of marked video to prevent the loss of vital evidence material. Alarm functions include user-definable motion detection on all camera inputs, while alarms situations are coded for instant recall. The maximum record rate is 50 images per second for PAL (60 for NTSC), although the record rate and image quality are selectable per camera input to facilitate recording cameras in high-risk areas at a higher quality than those in lower risk areas. The system also has six user-programmable recording profiles, allowing different system behavior during, for example, day and night.
Digital images as evidence
Concerns about evidence tampering with digitally recorded video are overcome in DIVAR by recording authenticating metadata with video images. Alteration of either the image content or this metadata can be detected. The system also incorporates an Authenticity check for local and remote playback, and has a dedicated PC player for playback of secure video files. Other secure features include programmable user levels that restrict access to selected functions.
Virtually endless unattended recording
There is a choice of built-in hard disk capacities to cover most requirements, but the storage capacity can be extended to over 14TB (1.4 x 10¹³ Bytes) of data using external archives based on today's high-capacity drives. This means that all cameras can be recorded at real time for days, weeks and even months.
Extending the system
Expansion to a larger system is possible by cascading up to 30 units. This means that in 480 camera system can be operated by a single operator. The Philips Video Manager, allows up to 16 DIVAR units to be managed as a single integrated CCTV system for up to 256 cameras.
The world within DIVAR's reach
The network interface and the DIVAR's Control Center software enables live system viewing and configuration of any connected camera via any TCPI/P network, LAN, WAN or even over the Internet. The advanced graphical user interface provides extensive search, retrieval and playback of recorded video with a choice of icon-based, text-based or graphics-based video search. Up to six users can be connected simultaneously. The network bandwidth utilization of the DIVAR can be throttled down, allowing it to be tuned to the required application.
If you are out of LAN you are NOT out of luck with DIVAR! You can remotely access it using regular telephone lines and LAN modem (available). Gas stations, daycare, schools, pizza places, small businesses of any kind...you name it, it is all within reach with DIVAR.
To aid installation, a step-by-step guide with on-screen menus is provided in eight languages. A configuration tool is also supplied to remotely set up a system using a PC. DIVAR is truly International product! DIVAR is fully compatible with other observation equipment including Philips AutoDome™ cameras, keyboards, Multiplexer Manager, the Philips Allegiant™ system and DVA storage arrays. DIVAR carries a 3-year warranty, and is part of the SWAP within 72 hours program. A helpdesk and hard disk upgrade service are also available.
